Copyright Compliance
Infotrieve ensures that documents are copied and delivered in a copyright compliant manner in one of three ways:
-
In most cases, Infotrieve copies/delivers a document under the auspices of a direct agreement with the publisher of the article. These agreements specify under what conditions an article may be copied and disseminated. Infotrieve has direct relationships with 130+ publishers.
-
Where Infotrieve does not have an agreement with the publisher of an article, copyright may be cleared through a reproductive rights organization (“RRO”) as applicable.
-
In cases where clearance is not available through an RRO, Infotrieve will contact the publisher or rights-holder directly and secure permission to copy and disseminate an article accordingly.
In the event that Infotrieve cannot compliantly clear copyright, the end-user ordering the document is notified accordingly and no document is delivered.
The price of most documents delivered by Infotrieve includes a copyright royalty, which is set by the rights holder.
All documents are delivered to the end-user with the publisher’s copyright notice affixed to the document (generally containing a prohibition against making subsequent copies).
Infotrieve offers a web-based United States copyright compliance and awareness course for end-users, librarians, and information center managers. This tutorial includes a “certificate” for each person completing the course and takes approximately one hour to complete. For additional information, please contact customer service.
